Bio
KeWanda Thompson, began her professional career at ABC TV, New York, NY in 1990 and is a proud graduate of St. Andrews Presbyterian College (now St. Andrews University, Laurinburg, NC). In 2002, along with her husband and daughter, she relocated to beautiful Charleston, SC and transitioned to her passion of healthcare and the community with Roper St. Francis Healthcare in the Mission Department. During her fourteen-year plus tenure with Roper St. Francis, she received the President’s Humanitarian Award (employee who best embody system Missions and Standards of Behavior). Fast forwarding to 2016, with husband, daughter, son, and Houston (the family dog), they relocated to the Charlotte metro area and Atrium Health where she continues to be engaged in the community.
In her role as a Strategist for Atrium Health, KeWanda is the Community Engagement and Corporate Responsibility market leader throughout Northern Mecklenburg, providing coverage for University City, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, and Mooresville and recently, Stanly County. She is also a 2020 graduate of Leadership Lake Norman, a member of the North Mecklenburg Economic Mobility Collaborative Committee, UCITY Collective, and a 2022 graduate of Atrium Health’s Diversity Certificate Program. Previously, KeWanda was liaison for the Southeast Market (Union, Anson, and Stanly) and Cabarrus and Rowan Counties and led the tracking and reporting of Community Benefit for the system. She is a trained Mental Health First Aid Instructor for Youth and Adults and a proud member of Atrium Health’s Veteran and Military System Resource Group, the African American Women Exemplifying Commitment to Equity & Leadership as well as Team Teal and a “Big Sister/Mentor” through the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.
KeWanda has been the recipient of several awards for exhibiting outstanding performance and exemplifying the System’s core values of Caring, Commitment, Integrity and Teamwork. These awards include Key Employee Award Program (KEAP), Values in Action (VIA) and Twenty Years of Dedicated Service. She loves connecting and getting her teammates involved in system community engagement events and most importantly, KeWanda dedicates sharing time with her two college children majoring in Engineering and Kinesiology.
